Going Home – Reflection 7

For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.
Hebrews 3:4

Bargains. I love them. And nothing beats a Christmas discount! Last year’s holiday hunt yielded a cute little vacuum robot, vastly marked down. I plopped him into the virtual shopping cart and clicked the “buy” button. Soon, he was speeding to his new home.

A few days later, the package arrived. Free from his wrappings, my new vacuum was ready for action. I named him Jeeves, a common name for a butler—or in this case, a robot.

Jeeves is a delightful addition to my family. He works hard, has a knack for finding dirt, is quite pleasant, and says hi as he chugs past. But one feature especially intrigues me. He always knows where his home is.

After Jeeves finishes his work, I press a button on his remote control, and he heads for his base. Wherever he may be, the radar leads him home. He may search for a bit, but he always finds his way back.

It’s the same with God. He’s our home base. We may have a busy schedule. We may be exhausted and worn out. We may face countless challenges and difficulties. Yet Jesus, our central hub, is always there. His love provides a safe haven that never changes.

Our home base is eager to welcome us anytime, no matter what. So, let’s head to the docking station for a recharge. I’ll meet you there.

My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.
Isaiah 32:18

You Always Matter

Sometimes I’m not sure where my home is. Yes, I know my address. But where is my spiritual home? Where do I belong? Where am I safe? Definitely tough questions for those who struggle. The answer could be family. Or friends. Or none of the above. But who always values us? You guessed it—God.

What about you? Care to join Jesus for a few moments? Allow his gentle presence to help you find rest and tranquility. With him, you are always at home.

Ponder and Pray

When have you felt lost, either physically or emotionally?

How did you find your way back home?

Was Jesus with you? How could you tell?

Lord, many times I feel stuck and stranded on a road going nowhere. I’m certain there’s a path toward peace, safety, and understanding. But where is it? I can’t find it alone. Hold my hand and help me accept the love you offer every moment. Guide me home once again. Amen.
